The seas around the island are filled with an array of fascinating and beautiful creatures, but Langkawi’s Underwater World does not limit itself to this only.
There is a section dedicated to the rainforests of the world, with a colourful array of birds, fish and small animals like marmosets and terrapins on display. You can also learn more about the vividly colourful residents of coral reefs, before seeing them for real in the neighbouring Payar Island.
Moving you straight from the tropics to the complete opposite, the next section is dedicated to the Antarctic. One feature that sets this centre apart from the others in the region, is its successful breeding programme for African penguins, a vulnerable species native to the south-western shores of Africa. Watch as the black and white birds waddle curiously on land and speed through the water like torpedoes.
You’ll resurface from the Underwater World right inside the adjoining Zon duty-free centre, so you can squeeze in some essential Langkawi shopping before heading home.
