WELCOME

Only ten minutes away from the bustle of Penang, the jungle-clad island of Jerejak is the perfect escape:  Virgin rainforest and a rich history lay waiting to be explored, with adventurous thrills around every turn. Expert hands are ready to massage your tired muscles in the tranquillity of the forest, while the scent of aromatic oils and wild flowers fill the air. Delicious dishes are presented in a whirl of colour and flavour. Quiet chalets offer serene comfort, with the lights of the city blinking in the distance as if part of another world.

The Jerejak Island Resort and Spa is the only resort on the island, with accommodation in richly furnished chalets as well as a campsite. They offer adventure activities and exploration trails all around the island as well as a full range of team building activities and conferencing facilities. The spa is famous amongst ministers and dignitaries and the restaurant draws scores of day visitors over weekends.

The island that is now a rejuvenating weekend getaway, an ideal team building venue and a day-trippers delight was not always so idyllic. Its alias as The Alcatraz of Malaysia is rooted in the island’s history as a penal colony, but there was also a time when it housed a health inspection centre for immigrants, a tuberculosis hospital and even a War memorial. Explore historical Jerejak.

The lush jungle on the island has both Dipterocarp and Mangrove forests, home to an estimated 210 species of flora and 39 bird, reptile and mammal species. You may catch a glimpse of a long tailed macaque, a giant monitor lizard or a white bellied sea eagle amongst the towering trees of the forest or the spindly roots of the mangrove trees. Learn more about the nature on the island.
