Salang
reason to visit Tioman
Salang is definitely a laid-back place
with a good balance of local and foreign
tourists. As the villagers have been dealing
with foreigners since the 80s, you can
expect to hear a makcik taking orders
in perfect English and Caucasian male
travellers in sarongs.

Juara
is a wide semicircle shaped bay with a broad excellent
sandy beach. The bay is bisected by a headland, the
northern part with the jetty is more developed, the
southern one with only two small resorts within 1 km
is complete deserted. The last time when I was in Juara,
I had the beach all for myself. Palms fringe both beaches,
whereas the stretch right in front of Mizani's Place
is the most beautiful.
Unfortunately
there are sandflies occasionally at the beach, which
can cause itchiness for days. The best snorkelling is
around the rocks at the northern end of the beach, where
you can find some reef sharks. Because the bay is facing
the open South Chinese Sea the water is seldom smooth
as glass, but only during the monsoon season from November
to February the sea is very rough.
